Canon

Klaus Mikaelson { the vampire diaries | tv } niklaus Klaus has, and probably always will be, the bane of Elena's existence. He is the person who not only has killed a ton of people she cares about, he also killed her once as well. (Bonnie did a spell so that her life would be traded with that of her biological father's, John Gilbert, which is why she's still human.) Now, however, he needs Elena alive for as long as possible, due to the fact that her blood is needed to turn werewolves into hybrids. Elena doesn't like that Klaus has this power over her, but she tries to use what little leverage she has over him for as long as she can. Klaus first came back into her life when she was still traveling with Elijah, Sam and Dean. Elijah found him and brought him back to the motel under the pretenses that Klaus was trying to make amends. Elena wasn't having any of it, and the end result was Elijah getting daggered, which Elena feels some guilt about, given that Klaus is letting her think that it was her fault. He then in turn tried to threaten Sam and Dean, but Elena made a deal with him to protect the brothers if she went with him willingly. And go with him she did. They drove around for a while, with Klaus using her as a food source which meant that she was usually sleeping more often than she would like. She got the opportunity to make a move for Elijah in the trunk when Klaus stopped for a midnight snack and she was left alone in the car. The downside to all of that, however, was that Elijah wasn't there. Klaus had moved him and stored him else where while she wasn't looking. Knowing that she had burned up all her good will with that one move, she tried to play nice after that, making them peanut butter sandwiches and trying to have a little bonding time, until Klaus stepped in it again, and she stormed off to get some sleep on her own. When Stefan arrived the next day, she convinced Klaus to let Stefan come along with them. This could be an awesome idea, or it could backfire spectacularly -- we're not entirely sure yet.

Stefan Salvatore { the vampire diaries | tv } alittlebitcool Stefan Salvatore is one of the most complicated aspects of Elena's life. He's the man she loves and one of the people that she can't give up on, no matter how much she should. He saved her life when her parents car went over Wickery Bridge, and in a way, he brought her back to life again after their deaths. At the same time, however, he's also a vampire, and has probably hurt her just as much as he has helped her. He comes with a complicated history, a complicated brother, and blood control issues that make him just about as dangerous as they come. He's spent the past months back home, prior to their arrival in the Flupocalypse, working with Klaus, being compelled by Klaus, and then saving Klaus's life when Damon looked like he was finally going to manage to kill him. While she knows that Stefan did it to save Damon's life, it still leaves a lot of unanswered questions that she hasn't had the opportunity to ask him. Stefan and Elena were separated for a long time when they arrived in this universe. By the time they found each other, Elena was traveling with Klaus to protect friends she had made along the way, and when Stefan heard about it, safe to say he was none too happy about it. Klaus didn't help matters by trying to goad him into doing something stupid. Regardless, at the end of the day Elena convinced the two of them to play nice, and now they're all traveling together like one big dysfunctional family. Good times.

Cross Canon

Dean Winchester { supernatural } fullonobiwan Elena first met Dean and Sam when she was traveling with Elijah, and the boys happened to cross their path. Dean offered her a ride, and much to Elijah's chargin, they climbed in. Dean and Elena hit it off right off the bat, and Elijah and Elena continued to travel with them. He reminds her a lot of Alaric, which means she let him in a little closer than she should have. When Dean nearly hits a woman that vanishes in a column of sparkly lights, she tells him some of the story -- about Mystic Falls, and the general vampire werewolf situation. She's still smart enough to keep her role in things as the doppelganger a secret, as well as Elijah being an Original vampire. She probably shouldn't have said anything at all, but Dean said he wanted to keep her safe, and we all know she's a sucker for that kind of attention. Mostly, they bond over coffee. Or they did, until Klaus came back into her life. When Klaus threatened Dean and Sam's lives after daggering Elijah, Elena made a deal with him in order to protect them. She and Dean said their goodbyes, and Elena lied to him, saying that they were heading towards Montana when they weren't. After that, she left with Klaus and hadn't seen him since.

Sam Winchester { supernatural } imnot_likeyou Sam is Dean's brother. They first met when she was traveling with Elijah, and the boys happened to cross their path. Sam and Elena aren't as close, but she likes him well enough. Elena can pick up on the fact that he's resistant to her being here, and as a result she's bonded with Dean more than she has with him. (This also might have to do with the fact that her mun writes the both of them.) Still, at the end of the day, Elena will protect him just as much as she protects Dean. She hasn't seen him since she left quietly with Klaus to keep him from killing them.

Dropped

Elijah Mikaelson { the vampire diaries | tv } respected Elijah is the first and at time only person Elena had found from home. Back in Mystic Falls, their relationship was tenuous at best. They struck a balance through a series of deals in their attempt to try and stop Klaus, but they never fully trusted each other. Still, Elena knows that Elijah would protect her if he had to, so when she runs into him in a convenience store, she decides that it's better to stick with him -- a little bit of familiar in an unfamiliar place. They set out together, and on the way she ran into the Winchester boys. Elijah was less than thrilled about tagging along with them but it didn't make sense for them not to, so they stayed for a few days. That peaceful time came to an end, however, when Elijah ran into Klaus. Elena tried to leverage what little power she could, but it didn't end well. Elijah ended up daggered and shoved in the trunk of a car, while Klaus held onto Elena and took her with him on their own little road trip. By the time Elena got the chance to try and undagger him, Elijah's body was already stored somewhere else by Klaus.
